Kirk received his Bachelor of Interior Architecture in 1988 from Kansas State University, and during that time, studied abroad at the Fachberiech Innenarchitektur in Trier, Germany. Additionally he has studied at University of the Arts in Philadelphia to explore interests in lighting and furniture design, and at the Fleisher Art Memorial, also in Philadelphia, for continuing studies in fine art.
